Inner Peace

There is peace that lacks a mouth. And there is a peace that has a mouth (Likutei Moharan I: 57: 8). Peace is one of those things that everyone wishes for and few people actually experience.

Rebbe Nachman explains that it all starts with the individual. If we lack inner peace, the whole world becomes fragmented. If we possess inner peace, then tranquility and harmony spread throughout the world.

Bringing a Person to Life

A person might endure terrible suffering and not be able to express what is in his heart. There is no one to whom he can unburden his heart, so he remains deeply pained and worried. If you come to such a person with a happy face, you can literally give him life. (Rebbe Nachman, RNW #43)

Happiness is so important, it can actually bring a person to life. If you see someone who is so sad and completely dejected, and refuses to continue living because of the bitterness of suffering, when you bring happiness and make the person happy, you bring new life to that person.

This is the same as bringing a dead person back to life.

Pain and suffering are with us in so many different ways. For many people, the fact of suffering is a major obstacle to faith.

Rebbe Nachman himself suffered intensely during much of his life. He had to confront the difficult questions face to face. But he was not afraid of them, because as he said, “I am a ‘Know what to answer the non-believer'” (Tzaddik #418).

G-d wants us to stay connected and aligned, but guilt keeps us separate.

Shame over the past keeps us from reconnecting with our Source.

Strength of Desire

If your desire is very strong, you will certainly be able to accomplish what you want and bring it from potential to actual. For the main purpose of the obstacle is to strengthen the desire. When the strength of your desire matches the strength of the obstacle, the obstacle becomes surmountable. (Rebbe Nachman, Likutei Moharan I: 66)
