The Hebrew word for peace, ShaLoM (שלום), comes from the same root as the word SheLeiMut (שלמות), “completeness” or “perfection.”

Peace implies a unity, where everyone or everything is together as one. When we are focused on unity, we can be as dissimilar as we want, because we are at peace (see Likutei Halakhot, Prikah U’teina 4: 23).
